I like working on strategic and systemic issues,
and most of my clients are strategic and systemic thinkers. I partner
with my clients to jointly create solutions that meet their needs and
the needs of their business.
On projects, I like working with teams of people
who represent the world that is being worked on. I like sharing my
expertise and experience with these teams and try to make team learning
part of the package. I believe that the people who will have to
implement a solution should participate in creating it; otherwise, the
implementation will be difficult and at risk of failing.
In addition to projects, I like working one-on-one
with my clients in a coaching or problem-solving process.
I believe in building a business case for a major
project and then a second business case to justify the implementation of
the solution that results from the project. Most of the projects I get
involved with involve solutions that have very high return on the total
investment.
I believe that solutions, to be truly valuable,
must be simple enough to be explained and implemented by the people on
the team. Solutions must also be within the cultural tolerance of the
client organization.
When I bring others in as part of my consulting
team, they are people who I know and trust and have the necessary skills
and experience for the roles they will be expected to play. I have no
employees and hence have no need to find work for others except to fill
a client need.
I love my work, and I treasure the relationships I
have built with clients and other consultants in the process of doing my
work.
